SSTC Steel Construction and Inspection Seminars and Webinars Scheduled for Spring 2011
The Steel Structures Technology Center has announced their schedule for seminars and webinars o n the inspection of steel building construction, welding and bolting using International Building Code (IBC), American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Welding Society (AWS), and Research Council on Structural Connections (RCSC) codes and standards. All seminars are conducted in cooperation with the International Code Council (ICC).
An afternoon seminar introducing "AISC 2010 Chapter N: Quality Control and Quality Assurance" will discuss the implementation of the new Chapter N on Quality Control and Quality Assurance of the 2010 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, which incorporates documentation, inspection personnel qualifications, welding inspection tasks, nondestructive testing, bolting inspection tasks, inspection of steel details, inspection of steel decks, inspection of steel stud shear connectors, and approval of fabricators and erectors. This seminar will be offered in:
The "Structural Steel and Bolting Inspection" seminar provides eight hours of discussion on the inspection of steel-framed buildings using the new 2010 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, the 2010 AISC Code of Standard Practice and the 2009 International Building Code (IBC), and on the inspection of high-strength bolted joints using the new 2009 RCSC Specification for Structural Joints Using High Strength Bolts. This seminar will be offered in:
The "Structural Welding Inspection" seminar provides eight hours of discussion on welding inspection using the IBC, AISC and the AWS Structural Welding Codes D1.1 - Steel, D1.3 - Sheet Steel, and D1.4 - Reinforcing Steel. This seminar will be offered in:
The "Plan Reading for Steel Construction" 2-1/2 hour evening seminar discusses the use and understanding of typical structural steel design drawings and project specifications for steel-framed buildings, and will be offered in the same locations and dates as the "Structural Steel and Bolting Inspection" seminars.
The "Inspection of Seismic Steel Frames" eight-hour seminar discusses the connection details, welding, bolting, inspection and nondestructive testing for steel buildings designed to the AISC Seismic Provisions. This includes use of the new 2010 AISC Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings, the new AISC Prequalified Moment Connections standard, and the AWS D1.8:2009 Structural Welding Code - Seismic Supplement. This seminar will be offered in:
The seminars will also be offered as webinars in February. Eight-hour webinars will be offered in two four-hour segments on consecutive days.
Structural Steel and Bolting Inspection February 9 and 10 12:00pm - 4:00pm EST
Plan Reading for Steel Construction February 11 12:00pm - 3:00pm EST
Structural Welding Inspection February 16 and 17 12:00pm - 4:00pm EST
AISC 2010 Chapter N: QC and QA February 23 12:00pm - 4:00pm EST
Inspection of Seismic Steel Frames February 24 and 25 12:00pm - 4:00pm EST
The Structural Steel and Bolting, Plan Reading, and Structural Welding Inspection seminars and webinars parallel the ICC special inspector certification programs for "S1 Structural Steel and Bolting Inspection" and for "S2 Structural Welding Inspection". All seminars are approved for continuing education credit for ICC certifications. In addition, the courses meet the criteria of AWS QC1:2007 regarding continuing education credit for AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification renewal, and meet the requirements for professional engineer PDHs in most jurisdictions.
Individuals may to register for any seminar or webinar separately, or register for two or more seminars or webinars as a discounted package. Group discounts are offered for those firms or agencies sending three or more attendees.
For more information, for specific locations and times, and to register, visit the Steel Structures Technology Center website at www.steelstructures.com .
The seminars and webinars will be instructed by Robert Shaw, a consulting engineer with 37 years experience in steel construction and a specialist in steel construction inspection and quality standards. He is intimately involved in steel construction standards, serving as a member of the AWS D1 Structural Welding Committee and Subcommittee D1L on Seismic Welding, the AISC Committee on Specifications, AISC Task Committee 9 on Seismic Design and Task Committee 13 on Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and the RCSC Specifications Committee. He also chairs Commission XV on Design, Analysis and Fabrication of Welded Structures of the International Institute of Welding. As President of the SSTC, he has conducted seminars on structural steel inspection since 1990. He is also author of the Structural Bolting Handbook, the Structural Welding Quality Handbook, the Shop Inspection Handbook for Structural Steel Buildings, and the Structural Steel Inspector's Workbook.
