About your ICC Structural Steel and Welding Certification (85) Transition to the S1 and/or S2 Certifications
Special provisions apply in 2008 regarding transition from the old Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector certification (85) to the new Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector certification (S1) and/or the new Structural Welding Special Inspector certification (S2)
These procedures are still in effect, verified by the ICC certification renewal staff, but do not appear in the 2008 ICC Renewal Bulletin. For details, go to http://www.iccsafe.org/certification/inspector.html .
You need the Certification Transition Form - Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector (S1) and Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2.
You can transition, even without renewal, if you recently renewed your Structural Steel and Welding Inspection certification (85), but your S1 / S2 certification will expire on the same date as your 85 certification would have expired.
Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector (S1)
Current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) Certification holders automatically qualify for the S1 certification, upon transition application.
Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2)
You qualify under any one of the following three provisions:
A - If you have a current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) Certification, but are not an AWS CWI or CAWI, you can attend SSTC's Structural Welding Inspection one-day seminar and then you need not take the S2 examination.. The SSTC seminar has been approved by ICC for this purpose.
B - If you have a current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) Certification, and a current AWS CWI or CAWI Certification, you qualify for the S2 certification without examination or the SSTC seminar. You'll need to submit a photocopy of your CWI or CAWI Certification with your transition application.
C - If you have a current AWS CWI or CAWI Certification, but do not have a current ICC Structural Steel and Welding Special Inspector (85) Certification, you can qualify for the Structural Welding Special Inspector (S2) Certification by FIRST passing the Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector examination (S1), and then submitting a copy of your AWS Certification with your transition application. SSTC seminars are not applicable to waive the Structural Steel and Bolting certification examination.
